Israel: Conscientious Objectors Tamar Alon and Tamar Ze’evi imprisoned

by War Resisters‘ International

November 16, Tamar Ze'evi and Tamar Alon declared their refusal to serve in the occupation at the IDF’s Tel Hashomer induction base outside Tel Aviv. A military tribunal sentenced both to two days in prison the same day.

When they completed two days behind the bars, they were tried again immediately and sentenced to 7 days imprisonment each this time. After this, they will refuse again and probably be sentenced to another term in prison.

Send a protest email to the Israeli authorities here.

Alon’s and Ze’evi’s declarations

In her declaration, Tamar Ze’evi says “The choice not to enlist means to take responsibility for my actions and their meaning, drawing a moral line that I'm not willing to cross, and actively resisting a government and a policy that violates human rights and fueling violent and cruel reality.” See Ze'evi's full declaration here.

Tamar Alon says “I met my parent's Palestinian friends from a young age. I met people that were supposed to be my enemies, but they smiled at me, played with me and talked to me. These early experiences have taught me to look at the daily reality of the Palestinians and the reality of my own life in a critical manner. I cannot accept the claim that the oppression of another nation, the denial of basic human rights, racism and hatred are essential to Israel's existence.”

See Alon’s full declaration here.

Solidarity: December 1st International Day of Action

Alongside solidarity protests taking place in Israel, a number of organisations are also organising an international day of action on December 1st to support Alon and Ze’evi in their resistance for peace.
