British refusenik Joe Glenton jailed for nine months

On March 5, 2010, British Afghanistan war refusenik Joe Glenton was sentenced to nine months in jail for having gone AWOL. Connection e.V., Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) Europe and German Peace Society & Organization of War Resisters (DFG-VK) in Hesse, alongside many other organizations worldwide, strongly condemn the judgment handed down by the military court in Colchester. Connection e.V., IVAW Europe and DFG-VK Hesse ask you to show solidarity by sending letters to Joe Glenton. |

Anti-war groups in many countries are calling for all charges against Joe Glenton to be dropped. Joe Glenton should be released from military service immediately. On March 5, Joe Glenton faces court martial and possibly two years in jail for going AWOL (absent without leave). A Vigil and protest rally is going to be held in Frankfurt, March 4, 2010, from 4.30 to 5.30 p.m. at the British Consulate, Bockenheimer Landstr. 38. |

US AWOL soldier André Shepherd applied in November 2008 for asylum in Germany. Currently, he is waiting for the decision of the Federal Office of Migration regarding his application for asylum. More than 100 groups and organisations are asking the Federal Government of Germany at September 1, 2009, "to grant André Shepherd asylum, and to protect those who conscientiously object to participating in wars contrary to the law of international human rights". |
