Connection e.V. - About Us
Many countries practice forceful recruitment for war. Objectors are discriminated against and persecuted. Connection e.V., an association founded in 1993, advocates a comprehensive right to conscientious objection at an international level. The organisation collaborates with groups opposing war, conscription and the military. Beyond Europe, our network extends to Turkey, the U.S., Israel, Latin America and Africa.
The danger of prosecution has forced many conscientious objectors to leave their countries. However, prosecution as a conscientious objector is usually not recognized as a reason for asylum. Connection e.V. demands that conscientious objectors from war regions should get asylum. We offer counseling and information to refugees and support for their self-organization.
British refusenik Joe Glenton released from prison
- "Bring the troops back from Afghanistan"

(28.07.2010) British soldier Joe Glenton, who was released from prison some days ago, spoke at a packed anti-war meeting in London yesterday. It was his first public appearance after his imprisonment. He demanded to bring back the troops from Afghanistan and added: "I consider it a badge of honor to have resisted and to continue to resist. I've learnt that the real enemy is not the man in front of you you're pointing your rifle at, but the men directly behind you and above you telling you to pull the trigger." Joe Glenton was released on July 12th after serving a prison term for refusing to return to Afghanistan.

(31.05.2010) More than 2000 people, old and young, gathered opposite the Ministry of Defense in Tel-Aviv in a spontaneous demonstration of anger and protest, after soldiers of the "most elite units" of the IDF were sent to attack the Peace Flotilla that was on its way to Gaza. The number of killed and injured from among the peace activists on the boats proved that the aim of the action was to frighten and deter anyone who would undertake to break the blockade in future.
Greece: Women's, conscientious objectors' and other anti-war groups target the military budget
- Protest against the outrageous war expenditure in front of the Ministry of National Defence, May 9, 2010

(09.05.2010) 65 years since the end of World War II. The wars and the occupations continue. The war expenditure is too high. In the 65th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, humanity is not even close to peace, since dozens of wars are taking place across the planet, and arms sales worldwide increased by 21% over the last five years. While the frugal measures of the government, the International Monetary Fund and the European Union take nightmarish dimensions, condemning millions of people, especially us women, to poverty, unemployment, exclusion and constant stress; at the very same moment of this greatest crisis, small Greece has a grievous record in Europe: it is first in military spending!
Court of Appeal confirms nine months sentence for Joe Glenton
- British Afghanistan war refusenik still in prison

(23.04.2010) According to information forwarded by the British organisation Payday, the High Court in London refused the appeal lodged by British Afghanistan war refusenik Joe Glenton and confirmed the sentence of nine months for having gone AWOL. Connection e.V., Iraq Veterans Against the War Europe, DFG-VK Hesse and Payday see the sentence as a measure to prevent other soldiers from speaking out their opposition to the war in Afghanistan. Rudi Friedrich of the network for conscientious objectors Connection e.V. said today, "According to figures published by the British ministry of war, more than 17,000 British soldiers have gone AWOL since 2003. They have clearly voted with their feet: Against the highly controversial war operations in Iraq and Afghanistan." Chris Capps, spokesman of IVAW Europe,
added: "They picked out Joe Glenton because he spoke out what so many soldiers are thinking. The politicians who instigated the war should be in the dock, not people who refuse it." (Aktualisiert am 10.06.2010)

(10.04.2010) The past three months have been very busy. I have spent the time doing more research for my case, as well as integrating into the German Culture. I have also started to write a book about my experiences, with the hope that one day it will be used to help other people in a similar situation. Again I must thank each and every one of you for your love and support. If there are those out there who have heard about my case and would like to make a donation, please do so here.
