USA: Dismiss all the charges based on Bradley’s unlawful pretrial punishment!

On November 27 Bradley Manning's defense will once again face off with the military prosecution in Ft. Meade to argue that all charges be dismissed because of "unlawful pretrial punishment". This is one of the defense's final chances to reduce possible sentencing, second in importance only to the court martial which begins next February 4th. It's a crucial chance for the public to show the military and the media that they still support Bradley.

War Resisters' International has learned that 19 year-old conscientious objector, Fakhraddin Mirzayev, has been sentenced to one years' imprisonment. Fakhraddin, who is a Jehovah's Witness, was given a one-year prison sentence on 25 September by a court in Gyanja, and has lodged an appeal.

Finland: Total objector Topi Louko sentenced to 126 days in prison

Topi Louko, a 28-year old total objector from Lempäälä, was sentenced to prison for 126 days for "refusal of civilian service" (siviilipalveluksesta kieltäytyminen) on 9 October 2012. The trial was held in Eastern Uusimaa district court (Itä-Uudenmaan käräjäoikeus) in Porvoo. Louko had refused to continue his civilian service in September 2011.

3. noted however that, as a result of the legislation in force, an investigation against the applicant for desertion is still pending and there is a theoretical possibility that the applicant could be subjected to further prosecution and conviction;

4. urged, therefore, the Turkish authorities to take the necessary legislative measures with a view to preventing the repetitive prosecution and conviction of conscientious objectors in order not only to exclude any possibility of the applicant’s further prosecution and conviction but also to prevent similar violations in the future.

War Resisters' International has learnt of the reimprisonment of conscientious objector İnan Suver on 12 September 2012. He was arrested in Istanbul during a routine identity check.
